What is Our Village app

Our Village is a community-driven platform where service providers and service seekers connect. Providers offer a range of services, and seekers can easily find and book these services through our app.

How to sign up

 

    1. Download the App: Our app is available on both iOS and Android platforms. You can download them HERE
    2. Create an Account: Open the app and follow the prompts to create your account. You’ll need a valid email address and a secure password. 
    3. Complete Your Profile: Fill in your profile details to start using the app. Service providers should include information about their services, availability and rates and complete a background check.

How do I book a service?

    1. Browse Services: Use the search function to find the service you need.
    2. Select a Provider: Review the profiles and ratings of available providers and easily see their price and availability. 
    3. Book a Service: Choose a date and time, then confirm your booking. 
    4. Post a Job Ad: Allow Village Providers apply and you can decide who to hire.
    5. Quick Hire Job Post: Post a job in an emergency to quickly find candidates who are available near you as a push notification. 

How do I pay for a service?
Currently, we are allowing our users to pay one another using their own methods of payments. There are no current payment methods as we are in our initial public launch phase.

For Village Providers

How do I offer my services on Our Village?

    1. Sign Up: Create a provider account and complete your profile.
    2. List Your Services: Add details about the services you offer, including descriptions, rates, and availability.
    3. Receive Bookings: Manage your bookings through the app and get paid for your services.
    4. Promotions Feature: Post a promotion for the followers in your village to see, to get more business!

How do I pay for a service?

What fees do I need to pay?

*** We are in our initial launch phase and are not taking payments through the app yet. Our Village Providers can accept payments through whichever payment platform they choose for this phase, but once this initial public launch phase is completed, we will proceed to take payments through Stripe Connect, in which we will deduct transaction fees from the Village Providers bookings.***

Our Village charges a 12% fee per transaction, which is deducted from your earnings. This fee covers payment processing. Village Seekers will also have a small operations fee of 4% at booking.

Background Checks

Our Village is committed to prioritizing the safety and security of our community. Conducting background checks is an important step to ensure trust and reliability among our users.

How to conduct a Background Check

  1. Navigate to the Provider’s Profile: Open the app and go to the profile of the service provider you are interested in.
  2. Request Background Check: Click on the “Request Background Check” button. This will prompt the provider to undergo a background check if they haven’t already.
  3. Provider’s Consent: The provider will be notified and must consent to the background check.
  4. Processing: Our Village partners with a third-party service to conduct comprehensive background checks. This process typically takes anywhere from 5 minutes to 48 hours, depending on the timeline of the jurisdiction’s court response.
  5. Review Results: Once the background check is complete, you will be notified and can review the results directly in the app.

 

What Does the Background Check Include?

  • Identity Verification: Confirms the provider’s identity using government-issued ID.
  • Criminal Record Check: Searches for any criminal records at the county, state, and federal levels.
  • Sex Offender Registry Check: Ensures the provider is not listed on any sex offender registries.

For anyone offering transportation services, a Motor Vehicle Report must also be completed and cleared. This checks your driving history for any drug or alcohol or major traffic offenses.

Privacy and Security

We take privacy seriously. All background check information is securely handled and only shared with relevant parties. Providers must give explicit consent for each background check.

Safety and background checks

Our Village is dedicated to safety. We background check all Village Providers as safety measures in order to keep everyone safe on the platform. Please know that background checks

Understanding background checks

  • Background checks are carried out by independent third-party vendors. Sterling is the vendor conducting and hosting all of our user’s information and background checks.
  • Our Village determines the background check criteria based on our standards and government regulations.
  • The vendor [Sterling] collects the information.
  • The decision to partner with a Village Provider is made by Our Village, based on the vendor’s report

Issues with your background check

If you think there’s an error or missing info in your background check:

  • You have the right to dispute the background check findings. To dispute, please visit this help page.

If your background information has changed, inform the vendor:

*The vendor will review your information and, if necessary, send an updated report to Our Village* Our Village will then re-evaluate your eligibility based on the revised report

 

If you find mistakes or incomplete details in your background check report, follow these steps to dispute the errors:

  • Contact Sterlling by replying to the email or going to the Sterling Client portal (link provided in the email)
  • To dispute an issue, visit the Sterling Error Reporting page
  • If your report is over a year old, reach out to Sterling’s Support team
